How To Install Android 4.1.2 CM10 Jelly Bean on Xperia Ray ST18i/ST18a

Sony is reluctant to upgrading Xperia software, even its stop supporting update to Jelly Bean for various devices. Xperia Ray ST18i/ST18a that comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, can only be upgraded to Android 4.0.4 ICS officially. If you are not someone who like to see outdated OS in devices then there are custom ROMs that can upgrade Xperia Ray ST18i/ST18a to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. No Android 4.2 Jelly Bean available for Xperia Ray right now. You can upgrade your device from Android 4.0.4 ICS to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean using custom firmware CM10. The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean based CM10 ROM released under FreeXperia project. This CM10 build is based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and comes with many custom tweaks and features.

Pre Requisites:

Backup your data first using below mentioned instructions, so that if you lost any data you can recover it easily.

SMS & Call LogUse SMS, MMS & Call Log Entries Backup & Restore App
Contacts & SettingsUse Android default backup options.
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to Internal/External SD card.
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Important!

  2. You already have USB Driver Installed for Xperia Ray in your PC. [USB Driver].
  3. Bootloader is unlocked. [Go to –> unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com]
  4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled. [Guide].
  5. ClockworkMod Recovery Installed [Guide].

    I’ve been struggling with this for several days now, but I couldn’t get it to work. Step 7 failed in the initial assert. But then I found out that you have to flash the boot.img first.

    Now it works like a charm and I’ve got a phone with Jelly Bean! :)

      That’s great. We usually follow the standard guide but some device required boot.img first than ROM and Gapps. Good to see the reverse work for you.
