How To Install Android 4.1.2 CM10 Jelly Bean on Xperia PLAY CDMA R800x

In this page you will learn how to flash custom ROM CM10 on Xperia PLAY. You first required to download necessary files CM10 zip and GApps zip. Then follow the below mentioned procedure to install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean based custom ROM CM10 in your Xperia PLAY R800x.

  1. CM10 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM For Xperia PLAY [Filename: FXP201-cm-10-20130103-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc.zip]
  2. Google Apps [Filename: gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip]

How to Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean based CM10 ROM on Xperia PLAY

  1. Connect your phone to PC using USB cable.
  2. Copy downloaded files to the SD card of your phone. Important: Don’t extract any files.
  3. Disconnect USB and then turn off your phone.
  4. Boot into recovery mode. To do so,  reboot phone and press Volume Down button few times while booting. [in recovery use volume buttons to scroll and Power button to select]. Alternatively try this: Recovery Mode without Key Combination.
  5. Perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM that you can restore later if this new ROM not work or you want to go back. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup is complete.
  6. Then perform data wiping task. To do so, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wipe is completed.
  7. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the FXP201-cm-10-20130103-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc.zip file that you copied earlier in Step 2 and select it by pressing Power button. Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM installation will begin.
  8. Once the ROM installation process end, repeat the step 7 but choose gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.
  9. Then perform data wiping task again. To do so, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wipe is completed.
  10. When everything done, go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone and boot up into customized Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM CM10. The first boot will take time, so be patient!
  11. Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.

The half work is done. It’s now time to flash the kernel boot.img manually, so that your device boot properly. For this we need to run fastboot command. Your ADB installation most likely comes with fastboot.exe (android-sdk >> platform-tools) if not then download it from below.

How to Flash boot.img on Xperia PLAY

  1. Extract downloaded fastboot.zip in a folder of your computer and then copy that extracted fastboot folder to the root of C driver (where C is system driver).
  2. Now extract FXP201-cm-10-20130103-UNOFFICIAL-zeusc.zip, you will get boot.img file within extracted folder. Copy boot.img to fastboot folder.
  3. Now turn off your Xperia PLAY. Wait few seconds for complete switch off.
  4. Now press and hold Volume Up button while connecting phone to computer. When the LED turn to blue color, you are in fastboot mode. [Note: Use USB port located at back of your desktop computer instead of front USB port]
  5. Now open Command prompt as an Administrator (right click on Command prompt and then click on Run as administrator). Once your are in command prompt, input following commands as it is [you should first enter into fastboot folder, we are assuming you are using downloaded fastboot and your fastboot folder is in root of C drive]:
    1. cd C:\Fastboot
    2. fastboot devices
    3. fastboot flash boot boot.img
    4. fastboot reboot

The smartphone (Xperia PLAY CDMA) will then reboot in to normal mode with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean based custom ROM CM10 installed.

    Your link is for the wrong version of the CM10 mod. It’s not for R800x It’s for the R800i and R800at

      As mentioned on developer page the zeusc.zip is for R800(x/-). So, we didn’t put the wrong link.

        Right… but its not zeusc the link takes you to just plain ol’ zeus. At least it did for me.

          Don’t know what going wrong for you but when we tried to download we see zeusc. Screenshot attached.

    this is not for the r800x. this is for a GSM model, not a CDMA. it will let you flash, but when you start your cell, it keeps throwing an error concerning “android.phone has stopped working”.

      Did you install that boot.img? We actually offer what developer gave us in their official page. According to development page this is for R800x, don’t really know why this isn’t working! Anyway, thanks for the report. We updated the download link. That may fixed the issue.

        Yes, i know how to flash cell phones. I did install the boot.img.

            Ran through it yesterday myself and ended up with the same result unfortunately. Looking into other custom ROMs now.

        I have followed the link. tried the boot.img that came with the rom, tried other boot.img that i know work with my r800x. this rom is not compatible with an r800x. That is now a fact.
